Preparation of River Basin Management Plans: From theory to practice

Ukraine: Two training seminars for the staff of regional and basin divisions of the State Agency for Water Resources on the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive were held in Ivano-Frankivsk (June 11-12) and Poltava (June 14-15). The training sessions organized by the APENA project with the participation of the EUWI + project examined the practical aspects of the river basin management plan’s development. The focus was on the toolkit for implementing the EU Water Framework Directive and the EU Flood Directive. The participants of the training got acquainted with the experience of implementing integrated approaches to the management of water resources in France and Slovakia. The EUWI+ project  experts – Ms Marie-Claire Domont and  Mr. Philippe Seguin - have presented the experience of the French river basins with regard to Water bodies delineation and characterisation, Pressures and impact of human activities on water resources and Identification and mapping of protected areas. Special interest of participants was caused by practical trainings on definition of surface water bodies and analysis of the main anthropogenic impacts and pressures. Provide an appropriate infrastructure for the development of a water management plan, a strategic goal that the State Agency sets itself. Practical trainings on the definition of surface water massifs and analysis of the main anthropogenic loads caused a special interest of the listeners. Ms Olga Lysyuk, representing the, noted that a strategic goal of the SAWR is to ensure the proper infrastructure for the development of a River Basin Management Plan.
