Regional Project “Implementation of the principles and practices of the shared environmental information system (SEIS) in the Eastern Partnership countries” funded by the European neighborhood instrument (ENI) and implemented by the European Environment Agency.
European Environment Agency water experts hold a 2-day workshop in Ukraine, building capacity for water indicator implementation, developing coordinated water information system and developing water accounts that can support policymaking and the implementation of integrated water resources management.
ENI SEIS II East project aims to improve the capacity in Ukraine for better science-policy linkages based on the SEIS principles. This will be achieved by mobilizing water data, information and assessment in line with the EU practices as well as support to Ukraine in meeting the obligations to the international reporting e.g. SDGs. A water information system is paramount for the development of River Basin Management Plans aiming at global water management (and the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive) for which the Commission is assisting Ukraine i.e. through EUWI+ instrument.
Experts of European Environment Agency, European Topic Centre on Inland, Coastal and Marine waters, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, State Statistical Service, State Agency of Water Resources, State Enterprise "Geoinform of Ukraine", representatives of the EU projects - APENA and EUWI+, Reform Support Team and other institutions of Ukraine took part in the workshop.
The European Commission expects effective cooperation not only with state organizations, but also with international projects currently being implemented in partner countries.
